2009 is the year of the Earth ox.

EARTH OX IN A FIRE YEAR:

2009 is the year of the earth ox from a Chinese astrology perspective. The element that cycles every two years is known as the heavenly stem; so there are fire, earth, metal, water, and wood oxen. Variations in the heavenly stem influence one's personality, which explains why not all ox (people or years) are the same.

The earthly branch is the animal-one of the twelve Chinese zodiac signs. Ox is considered 2nd in the hierarchy, following the rat. 2009 is based on the Gregorian calendar, whereas the Chinese calendar is 4707. The ox is sometimes also called the cow or buffalo.

Ox years typically represent hard work. Think of the animal in its natural surroundings. It works alone or with one other and stays true to its course. The ox is conservative, focused, and serious. Their mottos is "I will," which literally may result in a test of wills.

The stubborn ox challenges the Feng Shui fire year (normally brings out a more social, gregarious, and ambitious side). On the surface, Feng Shui earth and fire elements compliment each other; however, earth reduces fire (think of your Scouting days - dirt over the fire to put it out). In addition, the ox's true nature is earth so this year is a double-earth over fire year. Earth, in of itself, can resist change but come around after there's time to process. Double earth will adamantly resist.

I can't help but equate it to the presidential election here in the U.S. Obama, whose slogan has long been "Change We Can Believe In," has altered his slogan to "Change We Need." I think most people agree we can't survive more of the same, and that the economy would be more stable had there been more accountability and oversight. Will we learn from the past? Will there be a struggle of wills? I think so, regardless of who wins the election. It will be interesting to see how it plays out, and the new President has his hands full. The ox year will command a methodical approach and quantifiable results.

"Earth" businesses will do fairly well. They include real estate, recruiting, the food industry, farming, household products, and practical clothing. The energy implies business consolidation, which is normally met with layoffs. Next months' article, 2009 Feng Shui and the Fire Year, will reveal another layer of complexity.

Earth years can also produce an earnest search for spirit and more focus on family. It's fun to validate this theory by looking at history. The Chinese astrology calendar has a 60-year cycle, so the last time we experienced earth ox energy was 1949.

Events that happened in 1949: Mao Tse Tung's army marches into Nanking; a bill is introduced to relocate African-Americans "equitably" throughout the country; Truman institutes policy of aid to underdeveloped countries; flight records are made; NATO begins; Republic of Ireland is created; Siam becomes Thailand; Chinese Communists take Shanghai; Orwell's 1984 is published; Supreme Court rules that evidence gathered through illegal search and seizure may still be used in prosecution; apartheid begins by law in South Africa; Willie Mayes debuts; Vatican excommunicates Communists; seven UFOs in three pairs with one trailing are tracked for ten minutes; Ingrid Bergman divorces and quits Hollywood; Truman announces Russia has The Bomb; Mao Tse Tung becomes Chairman of China; and Chiang Kai-shek's government flees to Taiwan.

All the King's Men won best picture. Let's look at some of the births that year. Some believe we need to see where we came from to see where we're going (i.e., lessons turned to opportunities). How have these people lived their lives? Think objectively about the impact they've had: George Forman, Robert Palmer, Steve Perry, Erik Estrada, Patrick Duffy, Jessica Lange, Billy Joel, Hank Williams, Jr., Lionel Richie, Meryl Streep, Lindsay Wagner, Maureen McGovern, Richard Gere, Joe Theisman, Ed Begley, Jr., Twiggy, Bruce Springsteen, Sigourney Weaver, Bruce Jenner, Richard Dreyfuss, Bonnie Raitt, Paul Shaffer, Garry Shandling, Jeff Bridges, Tom Waits, Maurice and Robin Gibb, Susan Lucci, and Sissy Spacek. When you think of oxen, these people are famous but keep to themselves for the most part.

Each Chinese astrology animal has an opposing animal. For the ox this is the ram (or sheep). These are both earth-related animals which implies severe earth-related symptoms such as earthquakes. With underlying yin fire, a volcano may also erupt. Other earth-related animals are dragon and dog. Dogs, dragons, ox, and sheep need to avoid strong earth settings such as mountains and deserts during earth and fire months (Feb. 5-Mar. 6, May 6-Jun 6, Jul 7-Sep. 8, Nov. 7-Dec. 7 ), and when their astrology sign is vulnerable (we provide this information as part of our monthly tip).

Does life come to a stand still because it's not particularly a good year? No, of course not. This is helpful information that enables success. If your energy is low this year, postpone strategic decisions and major purchases for a better time. You can be sure I check energy patterns and other conditions in my planning process.

This ox earth influence also brings health cautions such as cancer and liver issues. If you're a drinker, do it in moderation. You'll find the DUI (driving under the influence) will be met with stricter punishment. Purge your body of free radicals. Explore anti-oxidant agents such as vitamins, fresh fruits and vegetables, and tea. Earth also represents the abdomen, stomach, immune system, spleen, joints, hands, and shoulders. Take care of your stomach, and stretch your body to help with joint and shoulder pain.

We had quite the holiday season around here! Poor baby Jaiden developed a bad case of pneumonia about a week before Christmas. In a matter of hours, Jaiden went from her usual charming, playful, self...to a weak, little kitten. This crappy stuff hit my baby fast and hard. There is nothing worse than seeing your child sick. Then on top of that Mark came home Christmas Eve with the stomach flu. Which has trickled down to five of our family members. Including me!!

By Christmas day Jaiden was feeling a lot better. Watching her walk into the living room and checking out all her presents from Santa was the best medicine ever!

This morning I told Jaiden we had to leave the house early so we could go vote. Knowing my daughter is NOT a morning person, I was in complete shock when she jumped up and proceeded to get her jacket and shoes. She willingly got into her car seat and off we went. We entered the voting building, placed our votes, and out the door we went.

Once we were back in the car, Jaiden looked at me, with a confused look and asked "Mama where's the boat?" Too cute!

Swimming Lessons!

Jaiden started swimming lessons a couple of weeks ago. I was a little concerned that she might not like them, but boy was I wrong. She has turned into quite a little fish.

Hard to believe this is the same little girl that totally FREAKED OUT when I tried to give her a bath in China.

Steven Curtis Chapman is a popular Christian music artist. He and his wife have seven children -- including three adopted from China. He wrote this song after a hectic night trying to get his two youngest daughters through the bedtime ritual of bath, teeth brushing, story time, prayers, etc. He tried to hurry them along and finally got them all tucked in as he left their room, he remembered that daughters don't stay little forever. This is his beautiful reminder that we should dance with Cinderella while we can because some day the clock will strike midnight and she'll be gone...

One Year Ago in China.....

May 13th, 2007 was one of the best days of our lives. That's the day our beautiful Jaiden joined our family.

One year ago we saw our daughter in person for the first time. A lost little baby overwhelmed by all of the people in the room.

Sometimes, it seems she's been with our family always. Other times, we shake our heads in amazement that she's here. Happy, healthy, smart, funny, cute and such a blessing to us.

Words cannot describe the joy Mark and I have in our hearts over having this beautiful little girl in our lives. We are humbled and feel unworthy to be graced with her. She is a constant source of happiness and wonderment for us. In one short year, she has shown us her gentle spirit, her strong will and her loving heart in more ways than we can count.

I know without doubt, that the years ahead are full of even more joy and laughter and I look forward to sharing in who this beautiful little soul will become.

ONE YEAR AGO TODAY......

One year ago today, we experienced the most magical moment of our lives- the moment that we first saw our beautiful baby girl's face. I remember Mark furiously opening up the big brown envelope..and me grabbing the paperwork out of his hands to find her pictures. I remember both of us being frozen in time as we looked upon her sweet little face. We will never forget that moment that changed our lives forever...the moment we first saw our forever daughter, beautiful Jaiden!

Christmas 2007!

We had a wonderful Christmas this year. We went to several parties and Jaiden loved every minute of it. Even though Jaiden doesn't fully understand the concept of Santa, she really loved waking up to all her presents. (Notice the bedhead!!) We definitely went overboard...our house looks like a toy store blew up in it. Oh well...she's only little once!

Jaiden is growing so fast. I look at her and wonder where my little baby went to. As you will see from some of the pictures, Jaiden is cutting her two-year molars. They have been quite tough for her. She's also going through a phase where she likes to have her shirt off whenever possible. Crazy kid!!

I would have to say her favorite gift this year was her new puppy Ziggy! She absolutely loves him. Jaiden is extremely gentle around him as she is with all our animals.

Mark received a Wii from Santa this year. That game rocks! I'm sure that's what we'll be doing for New Years!

6 Months of Heaven.....

It has been 6 whole months since we were united with our beautiful baby Jaiden! Six wonderful months with the most amazing child.

It's hard to believe that we have had Jaiden for only a few months. It seems like she has been a part of our family forever. She has amazed us with the progress she has made since she was placed in our arms.

When we received Jaiden, she could not roll over, sit herself up, crawl or talk. Not only can she walk now, she's running and unfortunately, for me, learning to climb very well. When we received Jaiden she had a total of 8 teeth. She now has a total of 16! The last two have broke through, but they are still a little painful for her. Jaiden's vocabulary is phenomenal, she says so many words, I can't even list them all. Although she is not really into watching movies, she loves music. I can't wait to enroll her in a dance class. The girl's got rhythm!!!

Jaiden is definitely all girl... she loves to wear jewelry and carry around her purse. But, much to her daddy's liking, she loves to be rough and tough too.

It really is amazing how quickly she is growing up. We treasure each moment with her and love her so much. We can't imagine life without her.

Oh by the way...we just sent our application in for Jaiden's mei mei!!

Sorry that it has taken me so long to blog. We have been so busy and so many things have been happening.

First…my oldest son Jarod recently moved to New York. It was really hard to see him go. Jaiden is really going to miss him.

Second…Mark’s grandmother just celebrated her 100th birthday. A party was held in her honor and many friends and relatives were there to help her celebrate. Just a reminder….she still lives by herself in her own little home. Awesome!

Third…we attended Sarah and Nick’s beautiful wedding this past weekend.

Jaiden received an awesome gift from her cousin Sarah and her fiance' Nick. It's a personalized story about how the fairies bring letters one by one to provide clues about which girl they think should be chosen as their fairy princess. Each fairy also brings an adjective to describe the girl, such as fair, truthful, or smart. At the end, the fairies realize that they have all been describing the very same girl, and they crown her as their princess. It is simply adorable! Thank you Sarah and Nick for being so thoughtful!

Lazy Weekend at the Hill House!!

Kind of a lazy weekend for us. It was extremely hot so we pretty much stayed inside. Mark however, is building a beautiful wood fence that will go around our property...so the only time we saw him was when he needed to cool down and get a drink. Poor guy!

Jarod came over for Sunday dinner. We had Chicken Piccata and Broiled Mussels. He will be moving to New York in August and boy are we going to miss him. Jaiden has become very attached to her older brother. Every time he leaves the house she cries and wants him to come back and play, which really breaks his heart.

Hopefully, it will be a little cooler next weekend...but hey, it's July in Missouri!!

Oh by the way...Jaiden took three baby steps yesterday. She'll be walking before you know it!

She Was....An American Girl!

Hope everyone had a great 4th of July!! I know we did! We had the whole gang up for a Hill family cookout. Jaiden wasn't really into the fireworks...maybe next year...she did however, enjoy being the center of attention.

It was a triple celebration for our family. Not only did we celebrate the 4th, and the fact that Jaiden turned 15 months, but we also received Jaiden's official "Certificate of Citizenship".

Jaiden is such a joy for our entire family. Each day with her brings something new and interesting for us old folks.

We're Back!

We've had Jaiden for about six weeks and let me tell you...she's an angel. I mean this child has fit so perfectly in our family that I have a hard time believing that I didn't give birth to her. Mark returned to work as soon as we got home and I stayed with Jaiden until this week. I think we needed that time to bond and to get her use to other people. The first few times she went to the babysitter's house, she cried until we left. Now she looks forward to going and playing with the other children. However, she's all smiles when mommy and daddy come to pick her up.

When we first got Jaiden, she could sit up but she couldn't rollover or crawl. Now she crawling all over the place and every once in a while we catch her standing on her own. I don't think it will be long before she is walking. God help us! She's also a great eater. There's not a food that Jaiden doesn't like.

Jaiden has the sweetest personality, but she is also very independent. If she doesn't want to do something, believe me you'll know it. She will only let a few people hold her, and if someone tries to pick her up she shakes her head back and forth and says a stern "NO"!

Well, I've got to run for now. I still have lots of things to catch up on.

We're packing like crazy and getting everything organized. Our oldest son Jarod came over for dinner last night. He will be house sitting for us while we are in China. He also surprised me with a wonderful Mother's Day present. It's a "Little Girls Bible Storybook for Mothers and Daughters". I am so blessed to have such a kind and considerate son. He's going to be an awesome brother to Jaiden.

And speaking of our little beauty......we found out that we will actually receive Jaiden on Mother's Day!

Our youngest son Jason FINALLY came home. He's been stationed in Korea for over a year. Unfortunately he's only home for two weeks...but we're trying to make the most of his time here. Sunday, we went to see a Royal's game and even though the temperature was a record low, we still had a great time. I was hoping Jaiden would be here when Jason came home, but no such luck. However, he's hoping to come back home in September. He only has one year left in the Air Force and I'm hoping after that he'll move back home.

We've been packing our suitcases for our trip to China. Even though I'm a really light packer, I just don't see how anyone could go all carry-on. We received our airplane tickets yesterday...we will leave KC - Chicago - Tokyo - Beijing!?!?! Crazy huh? On our return we will leave Guangzhou - Shanghai - Chicago - KC. The flying part is the only thing I'm dreading on this trip, but I'm sure I'll survive. I hope they serve plenty of cocktails on the plane!

Unfortunately we can't be with our sweet girl for her 1st birthday, but we will have a huge party for her when we get back home. Her family just can't wait!!

We did receive our Travel Approval...yeah!!! Our tentative schedule will be to leave for China around May 10th.

Our youngest son Jason will be coming home Friday. We haven't seen him for over a year. Should be a great Easter!

While We Wait....

We are waiting to receive our travel authorization (TA) from China and then we will receive our American Consulate appointment shortly thereafter. We received our Travel Group list and their are thirteen families who we will be traveling with. I can't wait to meet them!

Mark has been reading about the Jiangxi province and trying to gain as much information as he can. We think we will be leaving around May 10th, so Mark is trying to determine what kind of clothes to pack. Some parts of the country are a lot warmer than others.

We've sent off for our Visa's and should received them back next week. My mind is spinning with all the things you have to think about....paperwork, medicine, electronic equipment, snack food...(Mark's a meat and potato kind of guy, so we'll pack plenty of pringles and snickers!) My biggest fear is that I'll forget to pack one of the thousand documents that we're suppose to take.

But everytime I get stressed out I just look at Jaiden's sweet little face and remember...that's what it's all about! Bringing home that little beauty!

The following information was given to us by our adoption agency after they had translated Jaiden's file:

"Ling Qian Huan, female, was born on April 4, 2006. She was abandoned at the gate of QianShang County Welfare Institute on 4-9-2006. She was sent to ShangRao Children’s Welfare Center in the same day. A milk bottle and a bag of powder milk were found with her. According to the physical examination for admission, she was a normal baby. The doctor decided that her birth is about 4-4-2006.

She is living in the orphanage now. Her physical development is normal. When she was one month, she didn’t like to cry. When she was hungry, her sucking was strong. When the aunt put hand in front of her eyes, she would wink her eyes. When she was 2 months, she could see things. When the aunt played with her, she would smile. She would like to suck her hands. When she was 3 months, she was more active to move her legs and arms. She was stronger to kick her quilt. She could hold a toy with her hands. When she was 4 months, she could hold her head up at 90 degree. She could keep her head straight when the aunt held her. With holding her arms, she could stand for a while. She could make some voice aloud. She liked to “speak” to herself. She could smile at the familiar people. When the aunt played with her, she would make giggling. She could recognize the aunt from strangers. When she was 5 months, she would stare at the aunt when the aunt held the milk bottle toward her. When she was 6-7 months, she would clap her hands while seeing her favorite toys. She would use her hands to grab the toys. She liked to put her fingers into her mouth. She is a lovely baby."

We just can't wait to get our hands on her.

Will we see Baby Jaiden's face this week, or will it be next week? Naturally, I'm counting on this week, but as close as we are I can wait one more. But only one more!!!!

After two years on this roller coaster ride, we're definitely ready to meet our little princess.

In the meantime we have been keeping ourselves pretty busy. Several birthday's and anniversaries this month.....and of course Mark's new toy. (I wonder where the car seat will go?)

Mark Feels the Need...The Need for Speed!

Saturday was Mark's first flying lesson. He's been talking about getting his pilot's license for years, so for Christmas I surprised him with a gift certificate for his first lesson. Needless to say he loved it!

Now anyone that knows me, knows I hate to fly. It's a phobia. I call it "FEAR OF CRASHING". I've been trying not to think about all the flights we'll be on when we head to China. (6 or 7) Yikes!

If her dad has any say, Jaiden may very well be the youngest pilot ever.

Sorry that it has been so long since I have posted. We've been so busy at work and at home that I just haven't had the time. As you can see the most recent batch of referrals have arrived. So now we are offically 21 LID days away from Jaiden. The countdown is on......

We had a great Christmas with our family and friends. The only thing missing was baby Jaiden. Our family cannot wait to get her. She is always the number one topic of conversation.

Another Batch Closer...

The CCAA updated their site to show the next batch of referrals. The date of September 8th means they referred 14 days of LID's. But, what does that mean to us....well with a LID of October 18 we have only 40 days of Log in Dates separating us from our precious Jaiden. So if they continue to do an average of 15 days per month we should receive our referral in January or February. Every month we get a little closer to our baby Jaiden. Congratulations to all the families who received referrals!

Family Reunion...Ozark Style

We had our annual Matthew's Family Reunion a few weeks ago. It was held at my Aunt and Uncle farm. They actually own a mountain. It was a beautiful Fall day and we had a big turnout. You must remember that my Dad is one of ten kids...so needless to say, we always have a big turnout.

I know I said this last year....but, I'm almost certain Jaiden will be here for next year's reunion.

JAIDEN'S MOMMY!

I thought it was about time that I tried my hand at blogging.

What can you say about a woman that stole your heart, when you were only fifteen? The first time I saw her, I knew I had to meet this girl who had the most incredible eyes. They say that the eyes are the windows to your soul, and in Cindy's case, it's the truth. I am so lucky to have her in my life. She is the best wife and mother a man could have. Jaiden is so blessed to have you as her mother.

Like with any relationship, we've had our share of ups and downs. But through every down, we've come through with a stronger love than before.

Cindy is my best friend. The kind of friend you can sit on a porch and swing with, never saying a word, and then walk away feeling like it was the best conversation you've ever had.

She is my heart, my world, my soul and my best friend...and she still has the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen.

Vacation's Over....Back To Reality

We recently returned from a very-much-needed vacation. We flew into Boston (I don't want to offend anyone, but driving in Boston is a nightmare!) rented our car and headed out to parts unknown. First stop was Plymouth to see the rock. As you will see from our pictures...it's not much of a rock. However, the town is beautiful. Then off to Plimoth Plantation. If you've never been there, it's a must see. Very educational! www.plimoth.org

Next was touring through Vermont and New Hampshire. We're not your normal tourists...our idea of driving around is taking every little backroad that's on the map. We finally arrived at my husband's favorite town,Woodstock, Vermont, where we purchased tons of maple syrup and maple butter and anything else that was maple, to take home to friends and family. http://www.woodstockvt.com/

The last few days were spent in Rockport, Massachusetts. We rented a cottage on the ocean. It was awesome. I would have liked to stay in that town a few more days, it was amazing!http://www.rockportusa.com/

We went on a three-hour whale watching expedition that departed from Gloucester. Gloucester is where the movie "Perfect Storm" was filmed. It's a neat town, with a lot of history. www.gloucester.com

Finally it was time to go home...back to reality. The reality that we have been logged into China almost one year, and still no Jaiden!

We're are back home now. Back to meatloaf instead of lobster...back to looking out over our ponds instead of the ocean. But I have to agree with Mark when he says...."There's No Place Like Home!"

PRINCESS JAIDEN'S NURSERY!

We had the official grand opening of Jaiden's nursery last weekend. (Several attempts to sneak a peek before completion were attempted!)

Those in attendance were Mark's mother and grandmother and my mom and dad.

After all the ooh's and ahh's we were asked the inevitable question.......

Planning Our Vacation!

We've been trying to plan our vacation for some time now. At first we thought we wouldn't have time this year, but since the referrals have slowed down, we both realize that we need a getaway! It's been so HOT here that were taking our vacation in September. How HOT has it been? We'll it's to the point that every movie we watch has to have snow or some form of cold weather in it. (Last night we watched Fargo and Christmas with the Kranks!)

We've decided were heading to the Northeast to see the Fall foliage. We're renting a cottage by the ocean. That way we can take some daytrips and still be able to sip cocktails in the evening from our front porch. We've opted to have one last romantic getaway before our vacations start to consist of waterslides and rollercoasters.

Jaiden's room should be finished by next week. Pictures to follow!

My Dad...Super Hero!

I have always thought of my dad as my hero. I mean what girl doesn't think that way about her dad.

Yesterday he put his Super Powers to work....

Around 2:30 pm yesterday, as my dad was swinging on the front porch swing, he thought he heard a faint cry for help. (My parents live in the country and there's not a lot of neighbors that live close by.) My dad jumped in his truck and went down the gravel road, stopping and listening along the way for that cry of help.

About a half mile down the road from my parents, my dad saw a grain truck that was hanging vertical off a rickety old bridge. When he got closer he noticed a man pinned under the truck.

Needless to say, Super Dad jumped into action. He flagged down a neighbor to call 911, and then he and the neighbor managed to jack the truck up enough to pull him out. The man was rushed to the hospital, where we found out later that his leg had been totally crushed.

What makes this story so ironic, is that my 69-year old dad can barely hear you talking when your standing right next to him. But somehow he heard a man yelling for help that was a half-mile down the road and under a truck?!?!?

9 Months Down...????? To Go

What a whirlwind of a summer. We've been so busy with friends, family outings and planning a vacation that I haven't had a lot of time to blog.

Not much to say, except we have 9 months behind us now. The rumors are rampid about referral times. We've heard to still count on 12 months, but some agencies are telling their people that the wait could extend to 18 months. Needless to say, I'm glad we've been so busy...because if I had to think about how long this wait has been, I think I could possible go out of my mind. (I know...short trip!)

Since we are in the middle of a heatwave, we've decided there's no better time to finish Jaiden's room. We had put off finishing her room until we were sure we had made it to the CCAA's Matching room. (Didn't want to jinx ourselves!)

As soon as we get it finished, I'll post some pictures.

Cody and Jarod are still living close enough to home and were able to come to our annual Father's Day cookout. Our youngest son Jason, who is stationed in Korea, couldn't be there. He was able to call, which really made his dad's day.

I gave Mark a special gift for Father's Day from Jaiden. It's a Chinese pendant which means Father-Daughter.

Mark is such an awesome dad. He purchased this beautiful rose and planted in on Father's Day for Jaiden.

Since the referrals have slowed down to a snail's pace, I've decided to do some posts about Jaiden's family. We'll start with some of Mark's family.

This picture features Larry (uncle), Shirley (mom), R.L. (uncle), and Ruth (grandmother).

Now Grandma Ruth is not your typical grandmother. She lives in her own home, is an awesome cook and can tell you detailed stories dating back to when Woodrow Wilson was President. Not only does she have a sharp mind, she also has a sharp Irish wit and is definitely not afraid to use it. Ever since we decided to adopt, Grandma Ruth has been our biggest supporter. To quote "I hope our baby gets here soon, I don't want to be too old to play with her".

Did I mention she'll be celebrating her 99th birthday in August!

A Tribute To Mamaw

Sorry its been so long since I've posted. My mamaw has been very sick with Parkinson's Disease and finally passed last week. We traveled last weekend to attend her services.

The following is tribute to her from her children:

Dear Mom,

God has called you home, and once again our hearts are broken. It is hard to put into words just how much you mean to us. Your sweet and loving spirit was the heart of our family. You were a wonderful example of a Christian wife and mother. You and Daddy endured so many hardships through the years, but you faced them all with grace, good humor and a steadfast faith in God. Thank you for teaching us about Jesus. Thank you for being a friend. And thank you for the laughter that was ever-present in our home. Your legacy of love for family shines bright in the faces of your children, grandchildren great grand-children and even great-great grandchildren! How blessed we are to have known you. Today we believe that you and Daddy are walking hand in hand through Heaven, together and healthy at last. We will see you in the morning, when the sun will shine bright and we will all be together, singing and laughing for all Eternity.

Looks like were in the Review room. That means their looking to see if every I is dotted and every T is crossed. After waiting all this time, it's good to know that we're somewhere in the process. If we make it unscathed in the Review room, then it's off to the Matching room.

1) I clean my house in a certain order (by rooms). If I have to start from a different room it throws me for a loop. Can you say OCD?!?!?

2) I hate the sight of blood. When the boys were little and got boo boo's, they would have to go to their dad.

3) Heights freak me out! Can't wait till the Great Wall of China!!

(Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty!!

Instead of taking a big vacation this year, we decided to just do some weekend trips. We wanted to save most of our vacation time for our trip to China.

So instead of being bummed that we have been logged in to China for six months today, and have no idea when we will get our referral, we decided to put on our "Boogie Shoes" and go see KC and the Sunshine band.

Mark, (I'm your Boogie Man) basically asked me "Do You Wanna Go Party" and "Get Down Tonight"? At which I replied "That's the Way I Like It!"

I'll let you know how the concert turned out. Hopefully, I can get some pictures of KC...I know he's not as gorgeous as he was in the 70's, but lets face it, who is?

So until tomorrow...."Keep it Comin' Love!"

Oh, by the way, if anyone is interested we found 18 mushrooms last weekend.

Mushroom Hunting

Well it's that time of year again....Mushroom Hunting Time! The season for hunting morels is very short, so we'll be hitting the woods this weekend. It's kind of like an Easter Egg hunt for adults. If you can get past walking through mountains of brush, stepping on a few snakes and being covered from head to toe with ticks, it's really quite fun!

This is our youngest son Jason and his girlfriend Ashley. They're such a cute couple! Jason is in the Air Force and is currently stationed in Korea. Before that, he was in Kyrzgystan and Iraq. He met Ashley while he was stationed in Spokane, Washington.

Jason left for Korea last November, and should be home around November of this year. Absence is hard on a blossoming relationship, but I know these two will make it just fine. We think Ashley is an awesome young lady.

Christmas is my very favorite holiday. I love the festivities, family traditions, and especially having all the kids home. Unfortunately, Uncle Sam has had Jason for the last three. I'm hoping this year we'll have Jason and Jaiden home for Christmas!!

LIVING IN TORNADO ALLEY!

What a weekend in Kansas and Missouri! Our area was bombarded with tornadoes. The warnings started Sunday around 7:00 am and last until the wee hours of Monday.

We have lived on our farm for fourteen years. Out of those years, we have had two tornadoes touch down. Both times we were fortunate that we were not hurt, and our home was not disturbed. However, we did lose a barn each time along with other items. The biggest headache was the cleanup. We were blessed to have great family, friends and neighbors. They showed up with tractors, wagons and chainsaws and worked nonstop. We are truly blessed to have such wonderful people in our lives.

We were lucky this weekend, but some were not. There were 9 people killed by these storms. Our hearts go out to all those familes.
